On the initiative of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Republic of Moldova, E.S. Mr. Peter Canisius von Canisius and his wife, Mrs. Birgit Kertess von Canisius, with the support of the Grand Priory of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Austria and in cooperation with the Charity Foundation “The House of Providence” of June 2, 2014, 50 indigents will enjoy free lunches. The inauguration of the event was attended by the Bishop of the Roman-Catholic Church of Chișinău PS Anton Coșa, who blessed the charity activity and the lunch of the olds. Our beneficiaries were surprised by the simplicity of the Ambassador and his wife, who participated in the distribution of food together with the volunteers and the Foundation’s employees.
We mention that the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta was founded in 1050 at Jerusalem, in order to administrate a hospital for the pilgrims of the Holy Land. In 1113, Pope Paschal II recognized as religious the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta. Further, the Order became military to protect the sick people, pilgrims and the Christian territories of the Holy Land.
Later, the initial hospitable mission became again the Order’s major activity, of a bigger importance during the last century, especially, through the activities organized by the Grand Priories and the National Associations in more than 120 countries of the world, where the Order is present.
